Winterfield Elementary
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
Winterfield Elementary School, originally constructed in 1964 had undergone several additions and renovations over the years. These latest improvements include the addition of a new 12-classroom wing, a multipurpose facility, a new administration area, and main entry. The existing building was renovated to include new layouts and upgrades to the building systems. A new streetfront presence was created and the movement of buses and cars on the site was reorganized.

The new focal point of the facility is the entrance addition on the southern side of the school that has canted high ceilings and a deep overhang to protect the interior space from the sun. The areas of new construction are primarily load-bearing masonry walls with concrete masonry and brick veneer. The facility was planned with the potential for Charlotte Parks & Rec to expand the new multi-purpose space into a full size gymnasium for community use as funds become available.
