This existing school had been put to other uses as newer schools were built over the years. The goal for this project was to provide an operating pre-school in less than five months, before the start of the school year. Existing classrooms were renovated to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards in terms of space and staffing. Improvements also included exterior site work, additional painting, counter tops and door replacement.

A fast-track approach was adopted, organizing separate design and construction packages. Initial packages were designed as minimum efforts to meet the objectives. Then as construction proceeded and businesses pledged monetary and volunteer support, additional improvements were added via change orders. The cooperative interrelationship of the school system, business, neighborhood, and design and construction personnel for a common goal was truly remarkable. The FWA Group was proud to be a part of this community-wide effort on behalf of the children in the system.
