Its relationship to the campus master plan establishes the building as a major focal point and a link to future campus growth. The
aesthetic of the building reflects the historical context of the University. Recognizable features such as brick, arched openings and
porch elements are incorporated and reflect the design of the 1915 Peabody Gymnasium, which this building replaces. Items from the
original building, such as wood flooring, spectator seating, and equipment were salvaged and installed in the West Center to link the
past with the future.
Sustainable design strategies included daylighting, integration with lighting controls and the HVAC system, a high efficiency pool
filtration system, and low flow plumbing fixtures. This project is Certified LEED Silver by the United States Green Building Council.
