The FWA Group was involved in the College of Veterinary Medicine project from its inception. Because there was no existing
college and hence no existing faculty or facilities, the program, budget and site criteria all had to be developed from scratch
without the normal user input. FWA was asked to formulate the necessary information utilizing a group of designated "experts"
in their fields from veterinary schools across the country. Ultimately the project was organized into four construction phases in a
type of fast-track process to coincide with the availability of State appropriations.
The FWA Group provided comprehensive architectural services for the project. With early involvement, FWA researched and developed
a detailed building program, evaluated and recommended the building site, provided a site master plan, and prepared a construction
budget and time schedule for the facility prior to the provision of the traditional design services: schematic design, design development,
construction documents, bidding and construction administration.
Only those activities requiring disease control or isolation research are housed in separate facilities. The large building mass
is visually reduced by segmenting the building in plan and in elevation.
