After more than two decades of steady growth, the Toxicology Program at NC State has been recognized as one of the premier programs
in the country in basic and applied toxicological research. To maintain this leadership and sustain growth, it became necessary to
consolidate the research, instructional and administrative elements of the department that were fragmented in four separate locations
on the main campus.
Beyond consolidation and the synergy of faculty interaction, the facility allows the department to enter new and emerging areas
such as risk assessment, immunotoxicology, toxicology of biotechnology products, environmental toxicology and in vitro toxicology,
the emerging alternative to live animal research. The facility also encourages faculty to expand their research to increase outside
funding beyond current levels and to obtain additional sources of sponsored research grant funding.
To take advantage of opportunities for university / private partnerships, the Toxicology Building site is located on Centennial
Campus in the Biosciences Cluster.
