Because of the corrosive humid environment in natatoriums, FWA designed a hybrid truss system made from glue-laminated wood beams and stainless steel cables
supporting tongue-and-groove wood decking. The functional durability of exposed colored ground-face concrete block also acts as an effective aesthetic solution
in lieu of tiled or epoxy painted walls. The design minimizes HVAC costs, reduces long-term electrical needs by the use of daylighting and light sensors, and
minimizing the buildings overall impact on the environment.
